1979 Gibson J-40 Mahogany Finish Pinless Bridge All Original Hard Shell Deluxe Case
Only 1 available
1 in stock
Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting..
A really cool Vintage Gibson Guitar. It’s a Gibson J40 in a rare Walnut finish and comes completely all original with the original pickguard, pinless bridge, tuners and even the original Hard Shell Case…What a guitar!
These cool Gibsons were a less expensive option to the Gibson J45 in the satin finish. Other than the pinless bridge, they are like the J45 in everything but price. They only had a 10 year run with Gibson so you don’t see many of these. For all the Gibson guitars that have come thru our shop, this is the very first J-40 we have had. After this one, I will look for more! I like them!!
Here’s what Reverb has to say about these cool guitars…
While similar to the square-shouldered J-45 of the era, the J-40 used an economical satin finish to offer a more affordable dreadnought in the Gibson lineup. The J-40 used a pin-less bridge and double-x bracing.
Years of Production: 1971 - 1981
Body Style: Dreadnought
Wood Composition: Mahogany back and sides, Mahogany neck, Spruce top
Design Elements: Square-shoulders, Kluson deluxe tuners, economy satin finish, dot inlays
This guitar is setup great with new strings…Excellent playing angle of the neck to give effortless low playing action. It’s pure joy to play…And….it sounds great! Nice booming sound from this one that I didn’t expect. A lot of Gibson Acoustic Guitars are kind of refined in the sound department. This one is bold and out there. No hiding behind your mandolin player with this boomer. It sounds great!
Plenty of fret life in the original frets for years of playing life. It has a couple war wounds...One big scratch behind the bridge that is only a scratch..see pic 3…it is not a crack…and it does have a bang thru the wood on the lower treble bout...see pic 4... other than that, the satin finish has been rubbed to a high gloss thru the years now and it looks great. Check those pics!
Comes complete with the original Gibson Deluxe Hard Shell Case. Its as nice as the guitar. All original hinges, latches and handle are still protecting this cool guitar. Check those pics!
Its cool but used and vintage so its sold as-is no returns. However, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for over 18 years now and they have all loved the guitars I found for them. This cool Gibson will certainly not be an exception.
Thanks for checking out our cool guitars.
