Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting…
A really cool Prewar 1933 Epiphone Adelphi Masterbilt Mandolin with original Soft Shell Case!
I picked this beauty up in Branson MO. Its very cool. This 1933 Epiphone Adelphi Masterbuilt Mandolin A-style mandolin was made in New York. It features a Spruce top with Maple back and sides. This is a very punchy, clear sounding instrument with impressive volume and warm, woody tone. Its in very good condition considering its age… I found a pic of the ad for this mandolin from 1932...see pic 16. Very cool!!
The Mandolin has a replacement, also very old Gibson Tailpiece and has had a neck reset and some damage on the heel repaired. It was done by a Professional Luthier in the Branson area. Very good work. The original frets are still in fine shape as is the original bone nut. The Tuners appear to be vintage correct and not replaced as is the bridge. Strap buttons were installed on the neck heel and butt end. They both look like vintage Gibson strap buttons.
I included a pic of the sound hole label from another mandolin like this one. The pic is not of this mandolin but looks just like it. I couldn’t get a good pic so I am including this one. See pic 17... The serial number of 6652 is stamped into the same area and is what I am using to determine the age of the mandolin of 1933.
The original case is as nice as the Mandolin. All latches, hinges and original handle are still here and operating. The Purple interior is very nice and even the accessory box is still intact. The top end was coming apart so I repaired it…not a permanent fix but one that will last until you can find a proper repairman.
This is really nice historic instrument that sounds and plays great. It would be one thing just to have it as a significant historical instrument, but it also plays and sounds great. Easy playing action..no sore fingers with this one. The tone is nice, warm and loud. You will keep up with your banjo player with this one!
This Epiphone Mandolin is beautiful but vintage and used so its sold as is no returns. However..I have been hand picking my customers instruments now for over 18 year. They have all loved the instruments I found them. This historic mandolin will certainly not be an exception.
Thanks for checking out our cool instruments.
